Kitchenaid KF8 - 24 hours owner comments
So this is my first SA, and decided to go with this model due to the generally good reviews, wife approved athletics (white) and our use of non dairy milk.
Setup was quick and painless. Picked it up for the Memorial Day deal with the bundle which came with the extra bean tray and milk dispenser. The combo was actually cheaper than the machine by itself. Go figure.
Filled the hopper within Lavazza super crema, water in the tank and started it up. No issues going though setup and quality is good. Pulled a couple throwaway shots then a couple good ones. Very happy with taste and crema out of the box.
Then tried for a milk drink. Using oatley barista blend. Hooked up, started the cappuccino recipe. Espresso fine. Then milks time- sputter and spurts and virtually nothing coming out.
Huh. Must be because it’s new? Tried again. Same.
Tried foam only recipe. Same.
Thought maybe the oatley is too thick so changed to dairy. It’s better.
Then tried back to oatley. Nothing. Sputter.
Then decided to try oatley in a cup. It’s fine.
Hmm. It’s either the canister or the hose seal allowing air in - because oatley is thicker? Until the cup got below the end of the connector and sputter again.
Removed the end of the connector and used the hose end right in the cup. It’s fine.
So end result. The kitchenaid container is garbage - for alot of reasons already mentioned here. No seal, dishwasher not safe, and hose connection to container leaks or something. I picked up a glass jura style container and using the new hose with a kitchenaid connector on the machine side. Works perfect. This is also dishwasher safe. Without issue.
I’ll be putting the spare new one in a box with the other one. Won’t be using either.
Makes good coffee now. This milk container thing is maddening.
