I miss when r/GRiZ made posts about people making posts about old GRiZ
Hot take but this subreddit peaked during the Mad Liberation era of complaining.
The old complaints had texture. They had sax. They had emotional range.. Someone would say “I miss the funk” and twelve people would gather around the campfire of shared disappointment like elders passing down sacred scrolls.
These new complaints about complaints about complaints just don’t hit the same. Now every post feels like a 30-second remix of:
“let people enjoy things" into “let people not enjoy things” into “why are you even here?” into “actually this is a parasocial grief ritual disguised as bass music discourse.”
And honestly? The drop is mid. Personally, I think the subreddit needs a more balanced stack:
35% old GRiZ nostalgia
20% new GRiZ defense
15% “criticism isn’t hate”
10% someone invoking Tipper like he’s the bass music Supreme Court
10% “this sub is toxic now”
5% someone saying they’re muting the subreddit with the emotional weight of a Victorian farewell letter
3% actual music discussion
2% saxophone emojis carrying the entire brand identity on their back
At this point, I don’t even know what I miss anymore. Anyway, see you all tomorrow for the daily “can we stop doing this” post, followed immediately by the daily “no, because this needs to be said” post, followed by someone comparing it all to a Tipper sunrise set that none of us were emotionally prepared for.
I love this community.
I am muting this sub.
I’ll be back in 11 minutes.
