What actually happens to a B permit if you are deregistered? Really worried and need advice
Hi everyone,
I’m really hoping someone here has experience with this because I’m quite worried and struggling to understand what happens in practice.
I’ve lived in Switzerland continuously for several years with no interruptions, always registered, always integrated, and until recently working. I have never had any problems with my permit before.
Unfortunately, some difficult life circumstances brought me to this situation. My partner went through serious mental health problems over the last period, and it completely disrupted our lives and stability. We are thankfully past the worst of it now, but it has left me between jobs and no longer at the address where I was registered.
The Gemeinde has said I need to provide a new rental contract (minimum 3 months), otherwise they may deregister me.
My question is: if that happens, does deregistration automatically mean my B permit is revoked? Or is there usually some kind of grace period to find a new job and accommodation before immigration takes action?
I’m genuinely desperate to stay in Switzerland and continue my life here. I’ve built my life here over several years and the thought of losing my B permit because of a temporary housing/employment situation is honestly terrifying.
If anyone has gone through this personally, or understands how the cantons/Gemeinden usually handle it in reality, I would be so grateful for advice. Even hearing what timeline to expect would really help.
Thank you so much.
