17M - I like a girl, but my best friend asked her out last week and got rejected. What should I do?

Hey everyone, I’m a 17-year-old guy and I need some advice on how to break the ice with a girl in my class.

She had recently started initiating conversations with me a lot. She was always smiling, being super kind, and I noticed she would often stay close to wherever I was.

However, recently my friend approached her right in front of me(withoout even letting me know he was going to do that) and asked if they could get to know each other more. She gave him a cold "No" and walked away.

Even though she was still sweet to me right after my friend got rejected, the vibe definitely shifted, and atmosphere between us has become a bit awkward and quiet, and we haven't been able to properly start a conversation like we used to. I honestly have no idea how she’s going to act tomorrow when we have class together again.

Our next class is tomorrow. I really want to clear the air, move past this awkward phase, and start talking to her normally again. My questions for you: What are some good, natural ways to break the ice and start a conversation after a situation like this? How can I subtly signal that I am completely separate from my friend's actions without explicitly bringing up the drama? Any tips on how to keep the conversation light and comfortable for her? Thanks in advance!
