Replacement Catalytic Converter
I have a 2004 Subaru Outback 2.5L that I adore. Fits all my things and can offroad enough to take me on adventures. When I first got the car, I was topping up the tank causing a misfire and blew the cats on it with a P0420 code. I'm in California, and last time I got it smogged, I had to take it to a BAR referee to get an exception. I don't mind the CEL or extra steps for a smog check, but the car runs terribly at low speeds. Surges and is really jerky. I'm assuming it's from the back pressure from a clogged exhaust. So far I've tried replacing O2 sensors, Seafoam, and cat cleaning inserted through an O2 sensors.
I'm not able to replace the catalytic converter as a CARB compliant version is not available. I've went around to multiple shops and looked online with nothing available. I even emailed MagnaFlow as they have a part listed, but not available for purchase, and they couldn't provide a date it would be available.
I'd imagine someone else has had a similar issue, and I'm wondering if anyone has other options for fixing the exhaust.
