Just played for the first time, this doesn't make sense *SPOILERS*
First, it was a great game. But one thing bugged me.
When the Valor shows up. From the logs/conversations we know that they were a special ops ship sent to hide in system waiting for a signal from the Ishimura.
They brought a full nuclear arsenal, special ops soldiers and were very aware of what the Ishimura was doing and why the planet was quarantined. They're told the crew of the ship are likely infected and have procedures for if there's signs of mutation and if there's not. Everyone from Ishimura was supposed to go through a full psychological screening and quarantine.
This special ops ship then spots an escape pod from the Ishimura. Escape pod = something to escape from. Exactly the situation they were expecting.
So what do they do? Pick it up...open it. Apparently didn't even look in the port hole to notice the 7ft tall jawless, abomination with scythes for hands was inside.
Even if they did or it broke out, a group of well prepared special operators should have accidentally killed the thing easier than Isaac, an untrained engineer using mostly improvised weapons.
- There are 3 bodies right in front of the escape pod when you see it.
It just seemed so silly to me. I was expecting a Half-Life "oh yay, the military is here....oh no...the military is here" type situation.
They could have even had it make sense by just removing the text log that their exact mission was to come handle the Ishimura and a few sentences of dialogue about "why do they have nukes." They could have just made it a military ship enforcing the quarantine or on patrol and totally unprepared for what happened.
