Glycemic Index, Glycemic Load, Carbs, or Calories: What Should We Focus on to Reduce Blood Sugar Spikes?

For someone whose main goal is to reduce blood sugar spikes and improve metabolic health:

Which metric matters the most?

Is Glycemic Load more important than Glycemic Index?

Should total carbohydrate intake be the primary focus?

Do calories matter much for blood sugar spikes, or are they more relevant for weight loss?

For example, if I have to choose between:

A high-calorie meal with a low Glycemic Load

A low-calorie meal with a high Glycemic Load

Which would generally cause a smaller blood sugar spike?
