The new 2030 census ethnic categories are way better than the old one.
As a Hispanic American of mostly European ancestry (I’m Costa Rican) I am more genetically, culturally and linguistically connected to other Latinos from let’s say Mexico, Colombia or Peru than I am to White Americans that are predominantly of North Western European descent. And I didn’t like how I had to choose “white” and “Hispanic or Latino”
Also the same could be said for Middle Easterners. I have Lebanese friends who laugh when they have to select “white” on forms.
Whoever came up with this deserves a raise.
