To trans people fleeing red states

If you are eyeing up Delaware, consider your options:

Delaware can be fantastic in terms of ease of finding care and protections. However, there are some major warnings you need to be aware of:

-You are in a liberal/tolerant area as long as you are in New Castle County.

Kent and Sussex county are petty firmly MAGA country, with a couple blue pockets. State laws would still protect you, but you might face discomfort around locals. A museum celebrating the Confederacy just got approved in Sussex County, so you get the idea.

-It's a good state to move to IF you have a good amount of money as a safety net (a deposit or a couple months rent), or if you have someone to live with there. I know that isn't always the case for trans people.

The reason I say that though, is because while Delaware is a solidly blue state, it has HORRIBLE social services- probably on par with most red states. They are borderline non-existent if you are already homeless, and they WILL treat you like garbage.

Edit: Our homelessness rate has gone up over 16% since the start of 2025, and the government really doesn't care. Look at what they're going to the homeless in Christina Park.

DO NOT COME TO DELAWARE IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO GET A HOME. You will most likely be stuck homeless. Please make sure you have a place to stay if you are going to come here.
