Abandoned military airfield with planes

On the southern part of San Clemente Island off the coast of LA, there appears to be an abandoned military airfield with jets still on the strip. The strip itself is covered in greenery and dirt which leads me to believe it is not maintained whatsoever. The jets appear to be very rusted and some are just sitting in the middle of the strip. I believe this is an oddity because it is strange to leave hundreds of millions of dollars of military equipment to rust.
