lock opinions: u-locks with keys vs combinations, storing while riding

hi! this is probably a common question on this sub, but I’ve upgraded to a masterlock U lock with a key. it came free with my bike, but I find remembering the key very inconvenient. it’s also hard to store on the bike.

questions:

  1. is there any reason to not go with a combo U lock, or is it just personal preference?
  2. does anyone have any tips or hardware recs for storing the lock on the bike while riding, making it easy to get the lock on and off the bike (vs. having to screw and unscrew a bolt fastened holder, for example)?

it’s just been awkward as I used to have a lightweight cable lock (guess how that turned out). happy to hear any tips. TIA!

ETA: also would take recs for other styles of good locks! The u lock is so unwieldy to me

just got engaged and love my ring!! I‘ve always liked a sapphire in a princess diana style. this is different obviously but I actually really like it. my partner designed it with a jeweler but to me it looks vintage in the best way. it’s a vintage 4ct (3.96) sapphire with kite diamonds in 14 karat gold. ring size 5.25.
