I've never had surgery before, but I'm having neurosurgery to remove a pituitary macroadenoma in two weeks. I'm trying to work out what support I should organise.

My kids (18 and 20 but not very adult yet) want to be at the hospital and wait, and to facilitate that they need a driver - friend or relative (we lost my wife a few years ago). I'm minded to persuade them to stay home until I'm out of the recovery room.

Should I have a responsible adult present to advocate for me (a friend really benefited from advocacy after heart surgery as there were complications and missed problems), or just come alone? Or is having a few people ok / encouraged?

I'm nervous and probably overthinking things, but it would be helpful to understand this.
