VIOFO A119 MINI 2 - A huge disappointment

When I got home from work today, I was shocked to discover that someone had crashed into my car while it was parked on the street. There are some pretty significant scratches on the left rear side.

After the first few frustrating minutes, I suddenly remembered—with great excitement—that about a year and a half ago I bought a VIOFO A119 Mini 2 dash cam. Until now, I had never really needed it, and apart from occasionally hearing it announce that it had saved a video after hitting a particularly large pothole, I had honestly almost forgotten that I even had it. Back then, I set it up and figured it would eventually come in handy one day. Of course, I also enabled the automatic parking collision detection with the highest sensitivity. Today, I thought that day had finally come.

After connecting to the camera through the app and browsing through the parking recordings, I noticed that almost every evening after I parked my car, it had recorded the street for several hours and marked all those videos as "locked," apparently assuming that something had happened to my car.

Even on the evening when the accident must have happened, there are around 30 locked videos showing nothing more than pedestrians casually walking along the sidewalk. After meticulously reviewing every single video from the time period during which the accident could have occurred, I had to admit, to my disappointment, that it wasn't captured at all.

I was already a bit suspicious because all the recordings were made between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., and I found it hard to believe that someone would commit a hit-and-run at such a busy time of day with so many people around. But throughout the entire night, there isn't a single recording. And considering how large the scratches and dents are, I simply can't imagine that my car wouldn't have moved even slightly during the impact.

I'm genuinely sad and disappointed.

Hi!
I’m still new to the world of smart homes and HAOS, so please excuse what might be a beginner question.

I currently have HAOS running on a mini PC and use it to control my Bosch smart thermostats. Now I’d like to expand the setup with MYGGBETT IKEA window sensors.

When I look up how to set this up, I keep seeing that I need a Thread Border Router to act as an interface. As far as I understand, there are also some affordable options available as USB dongles. Is there anything specific I should look out for when buying one? Or do you just pick any? Which ones do you use? Can you recommend one?

From some YouTube videos, I’ve learned that Thread is still a relatively new technology and therefore a bit more expensive. The cheaper, older alternative would be to run everything via Zigbee. But as far as I understand, that’s not an option for my IKEA sensors because they don’t support Zigbee—is that correct?
Google’s AI mentioned something different at one point, and now I’m a bit unsure.

Thanks for reading and for your helpful answers! :)
