Okay so I have seen a ton of posts recently saying something along the lines of “hey,I’m just randomly getting kicked”. And while I’m certainly open to the idea that Helldivers are just getting more toxic, I think there may be a more reasonable answer: the SOS beacon.

If you don’t use the SOS beacon all that often because you are joining other matches, it isn’t something that you throw out every time you lose a squad member, it is one and done. Once
You turn it on, it can’t be turned off. One of the most common ways I use the SOS beacon is to join with 2 friends, then pop it at the start of the mission to fill out a 4th diver. Have even made friends/started a discord with people I’ve met this way.

Here’s the problem: if someone crashes, the SOS beacon can’t be turned off. So the Helldivers 2 matchmaking does what it’s supposed to do, joins a new person. The thing is I don’t actually have an open space, I just have a diver that needs to reload their game. I’ve had to kick people a bunch in this circumstance. I try to explain why to people but I also use voice chat. I can absolutely see a situation where the crash happens, and a diver doesn’t have the time or breathing room to explain and isn’t on voice chat, but they need their squadmate back. So they kick to let the squatmare rejoin. I don’t blame anyone for wondering if this happens to you, but I really think this is a good explanation for why it is happening.

I also think the reason these have increased recently is because Arrowhead is pretty clearly doing stuff on the backend with the whole Super Destroyer refresh. I wonder if while these fixes are being tested the game is a bit less stable (anecdotally I’ve noticed a lot more map bugs on the Squid front). Thus more crashes, thus more situations where people have to kick.

I’m not denying there are assholes out there, but I feel like when I’ve encountered those types of assholes they make their asshole nature known well before kicking, not just kicking with no explanation. Really the bottom line though: if someone kicks, it probably has nothing to do with you and everything to do with them. So get back out there and dive again!

Trying to figure out if I’m in the minority of thinking that the Hive Guard “buff” actually made them easier and more fun to fight or if people don’t share my opinion now that we’ve had time to sit with it. Like I said in the title, not trying to stir the pot with the “controversy”. Genuinely interested on people’s thoughts.

For all you brats who undoubtably live in your parent’s basement, go ahead and downvote the hell out of this. I’m sure you care about imaginary internet points, I don’t. This NEEDS to be said. And if you are offended by this post, then good, you are who needs to read it.

I have played this game since Malevelon Creek. Quite frankly, this is the first live service game I’ve ever invested any level of effort into whatsoever. Because I have found the entire world of live service games to be scummy, which is why I was very happy when I realized that Arrowhead, despite not being perfect, despite making mistakes, despite sometimes miss reading their community, is very clearly and fucking obviously staffed by people who care about this game, who want to listen to this community, and want us to have a good game.

Which is why it continues to blow my mind that some of you fuck sticks don’t seem to get this concept. Don’t seem to get that Arrowhead doesn’t have a magic crystal ball that they can see the future and know exactly how what fixes and changes they put in are going to be received. And then they will push a patch that is 80% decent stuff 15% questionable stuff and 5% good stuff and the community will react as if a Helldivers dev personally walked into your house deleted Helldivers from you console, banned your account and then gave you the middle finger on their way out the door while laughing about how evil they are.

Have none of you interacted with EA, or Activision, or fucking Bungie, or whoever the fuck it is that runs elite dangerous? You wanna talk about companies that do not give a shit and unapologetically just attempt to empty your wallet? Like my God Arrowhead basically gave away the second Killzone Warbond for free. Not because they had to, but because they viewed it as the right thing to do after the really bad miss step of the Killzone superstore items. How many other fucking companies would even have that thought process, how many other companies would just immediately look at that exact scenario and say go fuck yourself pay for it again?

Quite frankly, I have felt that the Helldiver community was better than most for most of my time playing the game. I have defended much of it as “legit feedback delivered in a less than ideal way. But this latest Hiveguard saga and the absolute bullying of the devs as a result has royally pissed me off

So I’m going to ask the question that I can almost promise you the vast majority of the lurkers here want asked. What the fuck do you people want? Let me ask it again. WHAT. THE. FUCK. DO. YOU. WANT.? because from where I’m standing here it is like every single one of you wanna pay $40 for a game two years ago and have unlimited free content, updates, new weapons and balances without you having to put in any additional cost. And then if the devs in anyway charge money, even if it’s 15 bucks every two months (napkin math for warbond plus superstore items), the community adopts this completely unearned moralistic viewpoint as if somehow Arrowhead has committed some fucking religious sin by doing that. Who the fuck do you think you are? I don’t take that shit from actual religious people, and I don’t need it in my Helldivers game.

For those of you that actually play this game, because I’m convinced that the vast majority of people in these communities do not play this game, just bitch about it. My advice, get the fuck off these communities and make your own. Start a discord, make a forum. Do something. And make your voice known to the devs. I love this game and the real (non Reddit) people I’ve met on it. This game has been such a wonderful thing in my life and I’m so glad I’ve been able to be a part of it. Don’t let this toxic hellhole ruin that.

TO THE DEVS: THESE PETULANT CHILDREN DO NOT SPEAK FOR US AND NONE OF US WILL CARE IF YOU TELL THEM TO GO FUCK THEMSELVES
