CBS Plans to Put Nora O'Donnell Back On Air

Not only did they renew Gayle King's contract with barely measurable viewers, now they're going to add Nora O'Donnell who couldn't get ratings and seems generally dislikable. Anybody remember when the CBS Mornings show was rising fast in the ratings when they did the new format with Charlie Rose, King and O'Donnell? It was a creative format and was working. That's how I discovered this show. Then the Me-Too'd rose, stuck O'Donnell on the evening news, which went over like a lead balloon, and for some baffling reason, put Gayle King at the helm and keep renewing her contract even though they've been in last place for 15 straight years. 15!

Pitch and Pricing Suggestions Please?

I have a very small business now, LLC'd but I've only done a few small offices and some homes, it's more of a side hustle that I want to expand. I've identified a potential customer, a chain of about three movie theaters that is having trouble staffing. They have the large reclining seats and little tables for movie goers' snacks. I'd like to pitch to these people an offer to clean and lightly sanitize the theaters. I know they have people to sweep and vacuum the floors. I'd simply like to offer clean up of the seating and tables. Could anyone give me some idea of what I may want to charge for that? Let's say a one hundred seat theater, reclining chairs and tables, I would initially pitch it for once or twice per week. Only suggestions on pricing and approach is needed at this point and I appreciate any help since I've not done spaces this large and since the cleaning is a bitout of the ordinary. Thanks folks!

Baffled by CBS Mornings hosts being perpetually absent from their show as ratings sink lower

I'm in a situation that, for the last few years, CBS Mornings plays in the room I'm working in for a couple of hours each weekday and I've always noticed that the host, Gayle King, seems absent a lot more frequently than I've noticed on other news programs. I now know that the show is almost always in last place in the ratings. The show lost one of the three hosts in January and they haven't filled the spot yet, Gayle King renewed her contract just recently and yet despite all of that, she still seems gone. A lot. I'm not talking periodic absences. I noticed that she was absent this morning so, if she's out this week, I think this would be the third week in a row, (or maybe the second). To add to this, her other permanent co-host, Nate Burleson, (somewhat likeable but also a bit smug), seems to be also on his second week of being out. He's also absent from the show a lot. Winter, summer, throughout the year. I periodically try to check in on ABC and NBC and their morning show people are almost always there. When one is out, it appears the other hosts are at the desk and not more than one person is ever out on a normal basis. Does anyone know how a network executive justifies this? Like, if your business is in the gutter for years, and getting worse, and the captain of the ship is always M.I.A., as is the second officer...how do you justify all those millions of dollars you pay them? And why hasn't the company's board of directors done anything?

GenX, Completely broken by this process and no viral video is going to help

In two weeks, it will be one year since I've "been on the job market".I have worked. Hard. Like REALLY worked hard to find something. I LOVE to work. I recently saw a viral video of a lady in Britain who recorded her frustration at being an 'older' woman and how hard it is for older women to find work, and she's younger than me. Of course, she began getting a lot of offers once her video was picked up by news organizations and I'm happy for her. But, it's the same thing with men, maybe even worse. I really look okay to be in my early 50s. I've never drank, never did drugs. Don't have children, unfortunately, so I've never had to battle the stress that parents battle. But, being a guy, we can't really 'dress up' or soften our age or looks with makeup etc. My point is, it's hard for all of us. And I think I've hit my wall.

I recently had four, (FOUR!) sets of interviews with four different companies. I knew there's no way I could accept one of them, even if an offer came through. Two of them seemed like great jobs and one... one I want/wanted so badly. I really, really wanted it. Each interview went superb. I have to talk and meet strangers a lot in my field and so, I generally interview well. One by one, even after second in-person interviews, I was told "thanks, but no thanks". The one I desperately want/wanted.... there has been no word since my THIRD meeting with them last Thursday. I figured if they wanted me, I would have heard by now because they need to staff it very soon. So, I'm assuming that one's gone, but it's still going to hurt when I get word. The anxiety is killing me and I wish they'd just go ahead and send me the rejection. I went to all that trouble, the least they could do is let me know somewhat soon. But the difficulty of finding a job.... WTF is going on? I don't want to blame everything on bias. I'm self aware enough to realize it could just be me... sometimes at least. But, not all the time. I just don't understand. I can't, and I don't want to just give up. But, it's such a helpless, broken, sinking feeling. I just wanna jump off a tall building, the despair is that breaking. (I won't of course, but, still..) If any of you are going through the same thing, consider yourselves in sympathetic company.

Advice for purchasing first ruck pack

I recently discovered this company. Have been looking at the Ruck pack 5.0 and was stunned at how expensive these things are, but I've since learned that they're sort of pricey things to have regardles of where you buy one.

I'm looking to purchase a ruck pack for general walking, getting in shape etc. I'll purchase an expensive one if necessary but wondering if one of the others would do.

  • If not purchasing the Rucker 5.0, what's the main difference between the Basic Rucker and the Ruck Plate Carrier?
  • It's difficult to tell from the website how much total weight all these packs can carry. Do they all carry the same weight? (i.e., the Basic Rucker shows it carries up to a 30lb plate. Does this mean it carries a max of 30lbs, or could it accommodate, say two 20lbs?)
  • The website also notes getting the 'long' if you're a bigger guy. Anyone know what they mean by "bigger guy"? Is the long simply for taller men/women, or for bulkier/bigger people?
  • For a stronger guy, can anyone recommend which weights I should purchase initially to work up to? (I realize they recommend starting at 20lbs but if it's something I can get used to fairly soon, I may as well get some heavier weight.

For someone completely new to rucking and to the product, it'd be super helpful if their website could be a bit more detailed for the un-initiated types. :-)

Question about getting rid of littled used CPAP's

I have an AirSense 11 that wasn't heavily used and I keep everything I own in pristine condition. Now that I'm out of work, and it not having been used in over two years I would love to get rid of it. The companies I've spoken to have offered me little to nothing. I'm wondering if anyone here has ever had luck with selling one in a legal way; perhaps offering some unopened supplies and offering a 'free AirSense' with the purchase, etc. I hate sounding shady like that but I know others have some theirs. I don't want to break laws, but it IS mine after all, I paid for it, it is pristine, case etc. and the money would be helpful. I also know many people aren't insured and likely many folks are in need of them who can't afford them. Curious as to any experiences any of you have had. Oh, I will add that apparently, you can legally give your CPAP to someone who has a valid prescription though it must be factory reset, but you cannot "sell" it, which sounds more like a rule that the industry pushed through than any safety law. Why can you give it away, but not give it away for money?

Maybe have found a way to get around the current issues with submitting resumes on Indeed

I've been getting the issue where I haven't been able to 'Continue' after Indeed forces me into that "Review Information" page where it's generating information off your resume. After attempting to play along and 'edit' any of the information it wanted me to edit, I simply deleted all of the boxes/panels containing the aggregated info from my resume. When I just hit the little trashcan icon next to each one, I was able to move forward. Prior to hitting the 'Submit' button on the final screen, my resume still seemed to be attached and my name, email and phone number was highlighted underneath that. I've been able to submit after that. I'm not sure if this impacts what the employer sees or if Indeed's AI was just trying to force us to verify information for indeed, but at least I was able to get through the submission process. Either way, after having given up on LinkedIn, I'm going to try to migrate away from Indeed for good and focus on L.I. and maybe ZipRecruiter.

No longer able to apply on this trash website anymore, anybody else having issues?

Even when I apply for an "easy apply" job, with my resume already in my profile, Indeed is now forcing me to "verify" certain information. It seems to be it's AI tool not reading my resume correctly. So, I friggen "update" the information, get to the 'Continue" button and am not allowed to move ahead. I haven't been able to apply for anything since last week. I've attempted to apply from a PC, a Mac and my phone. I've cleared cache and history on all three devices. Nothing. The companies who destroy themselves by trying to be so edgy and ahead of the curve with new trends etc. - do they not monitor this stuff? Do they not see it hurting their business?

A newbie's questions about canning pickled items (red onions) using (New/Commercial Grade) lug button top lids

I've been making "canned" red onions and beets forever. I recently received an inspection and license for being able to use our home kitchen to make/sell baked goods and pickled items so I've decided to test my long-term canning ability. I'm doing this because one day, I may like to sell my things at farmer's markets and our local food co-op.

I plan on using an appropriate pot for a hot water bath, I'll put a couple of kitchen towels at the bottom like my mom used to do. I'm waiting to purchase a more serious canner until I can get the basics down. I have 10 16oz new jars which have already been pre-cleaned and sanitized with a commercial kitchen sanitizer, just to be extra careful. My button top lids are commercial rated with the plastisol liner.

  • Would anyone here have any experience using these lids for canning red onions and other pickled items and if so, any recommendations?
  • Could anyone tell me if pickling salt is needed for things like this? I understand that pickly salt helps keep the contents clear. I want my onions to keep a red tint but not be "cloudy". They've never been cloudy before but I've never canned them, just used a regular stovetop vinegar based brine and them kept them refrigerated.
  • Once the jars are boiled, set out and filled, how tightly do you tighten the button top/lug lids? Do you tighten them as tightly as possible?
  • Any other tips for calling with these items is so very appreciated. Thank you.
