Installing Genie SAFE-T-BEAM sensors

Hi! I’m replacing the old Safe-T-Beam sensors on my older Genie 1/2 HP screw drive garage door opener and I’m confused about the wiring.

The original setup had:
>>one old sensor with ONE pigtail connector (2 wires)
>>the other old sensor had TWO pigtail connectors (2 wires each)

The new Genie Safe-T-Beam replacement sensors only have 2 screw terminals each.

At first, I replaced only the old sensor with the single pigtail connector and connected it to the new sensor with the red LED (source/transmitter). The red LED on the new sensor came on while the other old sensor was still connected, so I thought everything was working.

Then I replaced the second old sensor. After wiring both new sensors, now:
>> the red LED on the first new sensor no longer lights up
>> the second sensor also has no light

The Genie instructions say the sensors are non-polarity (“either wire to either terminal is okay”).

Did I do the wiring incorrectly?
Has anyone dealt with replacing these older Genie sensors with the newer Safe-T-Beam kit?
