I think I am one of the few lucky people in the sub to have a positive experience getting my IUD! I got my Mirena in 2019 and it didn’t have too painful of an experience, mostly uncomfortable. Just got it replaced this week due to a recent PMDD diagnosis I’m trying to solve with SSRIs and a new IUD. Getting it out hurt more than I expected I won’t lie. But nothing severe. I got a lidocaine block (numbing injections) before the insertion. Didn’t feel any sharp pokes at all, still felt uncomfortable when they measured it and put it in but really was not bad!

(Next day i got Botox injections in my throat for medical reasons and it hurt 10 times more, i definitely don’t have an extremely high pain tolerance)

I hope anyone considering the Mirena gives it a try, it has changed my life for the better in so many ways !!!
