I’m a solo indie dev and I’m feeling pretty defeated today. I recently launched a couples lifestyle/relationship app (shared activities, memory walls, daily games, cute stuff they can do together etc.).
The "top of the funnel" actually looks okay people are downloading it and, most importantly, they are doing the "hard work" of connecting their partner.
The Flow: Sign up -> Connect Partner -> Paywall (Day 1).
The Pattern: Almost all user starts the trial on Day 1, immediately after connecting their partner.
The Problem: i got 3-4 billing issues and all other just cancelled it after 4-5 days using it.
Pricing: $3.99 for the first month (intro offer), then $7.99/mo. Yearly is $49.99 with a 7-day trial. It’s a shared subscription (one sub covers both partners).
I even see couples using the app after the cancellations.
The "Leaky Bucket" Questions: I’m trying to figure out why the "trial-to-paid" bridge is collapsing:
- Is the 7-day trial too long? Are they getting their "fix" of the fun features in 2 days and then bailing before the charge hits?
- Should i remove trials completely?
- Will 3 day trial can create urgency and thus conversion? or it will create even more cancellations?
I feel like I'm so close, but I'm missing something fundamental about the psychology of these users.
The app is called Bloom Together. I'm happy to share the link if anyone wants to see the onboarding flow..
If someone would really guide me in this lifestyle space it would mean a lot🙏
