Your finite resources and the people who want you to delve into politics disregard what little you have.
The average person:
Time: 8hrs work, 8 hrs sleep, 1 hr prepare/commute to work. 1 hr commute home/unwind. This, for most people is 5 days a week. 1 hr cook/clean daily. This leaves you with 6hrs on week days, 30 hours on weekends = 60 hours is all you really have a week. Now discount time for children, goals, hobbies, exercise, and this time varies for every single person, but on average 60 hours a week is all you get to make life worth living.
Money: if you make 3k a month, that's 2k for rent, 400 for food. Utilities 200, insurance 200, gasoline 200. You're not saving any money.
Energy: this is near impossible to calculate and differs for everyone. It comes down to stamina and patience. How much stamina and patience do you have left after work, exercise, dealing with people, miscellaneous stress, traffic, and everything else?
These 3 factors are all we got when it comes down to it. Now with your finite remainder of resources of time, money, and energy, you have to decide what to do with it. And if you have kids... holy shit, the goals you have, those are pushed back for sure. If you can juggle exercise, goals, family, and higher education, good for you I say. You're not an average person, you're a superhuman.
What's my point here? We keep getting guilt tripped for not participating in politics, and I agree we really should. Fortunately the minimum participation doesn't cost money, just time and energy. You want me to vote? Alright, I agree I should, what in my personal life shall I put on hold to thoroughly look up these issues?
"You have 60 hours a week, why can't you do that with your phone, you're on reddit right now... you could literally do it right now!" I sure could. This circles right back to energy, do I have the patience to read every single political issue right now? No I fucking don't.
"So and so votes. You should too." So and so is too stupid to look into the issues, they're taking the word of whatever "news" told them. BTW I do not care within this rant about liberal or conservative issues, I'm not making an argument for or against either of those right now.
My point is and always was, in order for me to participate in politics, I want to be well informed, and frankly that shit is so draining that I simply won't be able to focus on anything else if I do. It'll consume me and I'll literally go insane from it and not accomplish anything I want to do with my life.
Maybe this was by design, maybe it just turned out that way from the massive chaos that is literally everywhere. So fuck you if you insist I have to participate, you're right, morally, and fuck you thinking I should place more of my time and energy into this overly antiquated system than I do the things I want to actually do with my life. You're acting like I don't give a damn, when in truth it'll consume what little I have and my insignificant contribution frankly just is not worth consuming my entire life.
