Malaysia Family Holiday 2026

Hi everyone, I’m planning a family trip to Malaysia/Singapore in August 2026 and would really appreciate a sanity check from locals/people who know the route well.

We’re a family of 5 from London: 2 adults and 3 children aged 8, 11 and 12. We like local food, culture, nature, beaches, child-friendly activities and avoiding days that are too rushed.

We were originally considering Taman Negara, but we’re now likely to cancel it because the Canopy Walkway appears to be closed/unreliable at the moment. For only 1 night, it feels like a big detour if we mainly get a jungle/night walk, especially with children and long transfer times.

Current proposed route:
• Kuala Lumpur – 3 nights
• Penang – 3 nights
• Ipoh – 2 nights
• Cameron Highlands – 2 nights
• Melaka – 2 nights
• Tioman Island – 4 nights
• Johor Bahru – 3 nights
• Singapore – 1 final night before flying home

We fly home from Singapore at 10:30am, so the final night will be in Singapore. We’re considering saving money by doing 3 nights JB and 1 night Singapore, rather than 2 nights Singapore.

Would love honest feedback:

  1. Is this route realistic with 3 children?
  2. Is skipping Taman Negara sensible?
  3. Cameron Highlands — worth 2 nights?
  4. Tioman — 4 nights enough, or should we do 5?
  5. Melaka — 1 or 2 nights?
  6. JB/Singapore — is 3 nights JB + 1 night Singapore sensible?
  7. Best transport between places?
  8. Any must-do halal/local food or family activities?
  9. Reliable recommendation for trasfers, where applicable (no self reocmmendations/DMs please)
