Finished the first game. Loved it but I have some complaints. Long post.

Overall I think 85% of the game is excelent, but there are some things I find incredibly frustrating.

  1. The fact that the icons are identical in the skill menu does no favours to the readability. Personally I would color code passive and active skills, separate low/mid/high stance skills with lines and also color code elements or give different icons to them in the magic/ninja sections. When you respec and have to spread hundreds of point it gets a bit tiring looking at every skill.
  2. Pretty much all the dual bossfight kinda suck. They design these as one-on-one fights then drop multiple on you.
  3. The game has some really odd balancing choices, especially the dlc when it comes to enemies. Sloth is extremely OP in the base game, I refused to use the because it stops people from actually learning the boss and trivialises every fight. Lifesteal talismans are also insanely strong, I beat Jin Hayabusa on first try by spamming Odachi high stande combo and using finishers when he is out of ki. Works the same for Hideyori and you can even stop him from ever going into his second phase by stunlocking him when he gets up.
  4. The last bossfight of the game genuinely sucks. Nine-tails covers so much of the screen that when I am in her backside I can’t even see my character or what she is going to do. Makes the whole fight very chaotic and hard to read. The dual fight Endless Duty seems insane to me. I am level 200 with a +12 Kamui. I do shit damage and Hideyori spams ranged attacks while the fox tails hide him. I am pretty sure the tails have no collision since I’ve seen his lighting attack pass through it. It is the only mission I am not bothering to finish.

I completed the base game on Way of the Samurai and Way of the Strong (not all missions, but got the way of the demon). Finished the first mission on Demon where Onryoki can one shot me with every attack and the DLC ok samurai still makes me feel that I suck at the game.

I enjoyed the game a lot, my favorite bossfight is Date Shigezane, with Giant Toad, Oda Nobunaga, Yuki-Onna and Nue completing my top five. Date Masamune is also cool but his water living weapons is very annoying.

So is the balancing better in Nioh 2? Is the levelling interface inproved? I feel I have to take a break after beating this one.
