A warning for Odin and Cap ship buyers
I get that buying and flying one of the biggest ships in game carries a lot of excitement. I felt that too when I pledged for an Idris. Seeing it on display in Invictus, the charge of excitement and adrenaline trying to win a F5 war to secure one, the first time calling it up in my hanger. It was immense.
But since then, my desire to drop any more meaningful money into this game beyond a few cheaper items has completely changed.
The Idris-P one year on still does not have a working main weapon, countless issue council posts have either been flagged as fixed, archived or simply ignored. The ship at release is far different today and the power of this cap ship does not feel powerful, with PDC's nerfed into the ground, turrets having such low ammo and distance that it does not feel like a military ship.
You may say, oh it's alpha, they will get to it. Let's be real, with the rate of ship releases and the now over a hundred ships in existence all with varying issues, when, is the ultimate question. When will they get to fixing these issues, when will there be appropriate game loops and purpose of utility for these ships.
You will buy and Odin or another Cap ship, you will feel excitement and adrenaline, you will feel awe when you first step aboard. But the history and approach of CIG to address issues on expensive ships isn't founded and is not proven. Beyond 30 days your ability to refund will be gone and you'll be left with an expensive reminder of the hype and excitement you once felt which will decline into disappointment and regret.
If money is no object for you, then go for it. If you are putting one of these purchases on a credit card or spending money you don't have because you are caught up in FOMO and excitement, then I would encourage you to think more broadly about the company and it's track record of quality on something which is expensive and has no intrinsic value beyond the game it exists in, which could change overnight to something you no longer want to play because of the knee jerk direction they decide to take the game in.
I'll leave you with a final thought. For the Idris, you have to buy a weapons kit which costs extra real cash. When they dropped 4.8, if you didn't insure your load out after equipping your pledged weapons kit (at a cost of 700k following the wipe) if your ship is destroyed/eaten/bugged, you lose your weapon kit and there is no way to get it back. You may say, ah but they are going to fix that in the next patch. This is a warning that the quality of their releases are ill thought out and rushed and WILL impact you and your big expensive purchase at some point and you could be waiting years for it to be addressed.
