Ms. Mona from Trash Truck. Piper from If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Why are all these female characters turned into surrogate mothers?
Piper is in the same class as Oliver, Leo and Henry, so why is she in charge of making sure Henry and Dog take a bath? Ms. Mona is—as far as I can tell—both childless and a literal mouse, so why is she the only one of Hank and Trash Truck's crew that takes responsibility when the group starts doing foolish things? Why is she the only one with any sage wisdom to impart, and why is she always cautious and correct?
The impulse to turn all these female characters into surrogate mothers for the main characters is kinda weird and perhaps even detrimental to our expectations of boys and girls in the world. I would probably do more about this if my kids were actually cognizant of any of the relationships in the shows they watch instead of just giggling when the main characters bonk their heads or make silly sounds, but for now I'm just a dad seething on the internet.
Thank you for reading my rant.
