I had my prolapse repair done yesterday, Friday, April 24- bladder repair/anterior wall for cystocele, uterine sparing repair using my own ligaments (hysteropexy), perineum repair, and a mesh urethral sling to address stress incontinence. I don’t think my Dr ended up needing to do rectocele repair. I also opted to have my fallopian tubes removed if they could for cancer prevention, but only one was removed since it was easily found during surgery.
I’m 39 and have dealt with prolapse for nearly 15 years following childbirth. Stress incontinence the whole time, feeling “gapey,” heaviness especially near my period, bulge at my vaginal opening, and more recently I stopped being able to use anything inserted due to uterine prolapse (menstrual cup, tampon, pessary). That was the final straw.
It’s pretty painful today and hurts to get up. I also had to come home with a catheter, which honestly seems easier right now since I’m trying to hydrate and don’t have to get up to pee. During the voiding trial last night over the course of an hour, I was only able to pee 200ccs, and I was so done trying that I was in tears. Hopefully Monday I’ll be able to pee on my own.
I was very nervous for my perineum repair, but so far it’s hasn’t bothered me at all. I also e day have an incision on my mons pubis/front of the vagina. I’m very achy and alternating ibuprofen/tylenol/oxycodone. I’ve also got heating pads on my front and back.
Im super tired and don’t really want to move much; I decided to give myself grace and lay around when I need to. It hurts to sit up, so I’m mostly just lying in bed or on the couch. I’m not really noticing any gas pains yet.
Despite feeling like I was run over by a truck, I’m glad I decided to get the surgery, and I’m excited to peek at my vagina once I’m feeling better.
Hopefully I’m one of the success stories as I continue to update!
