Toddler not recognizing the pee/poo sensation

I’ve been potty training 34 month old boy for a little over a month now using the Oh Crap Method. I would say we are loosely following now and mainly sit on the potty during transitions - before new actively, leaving the house, after meals, etc.

It seems the issue is, my son doesn’t recognize the feeling of having to pee or poo. There has been minimal pee accidents (probably because we have him sit probably 1.5 hours or so). But there has been a number of poop accidents. Thankfully, my son never really showed anxiety over pooping on the potty, and will come and tell me that he is pooping. By that time, it’s already too late. Sometimes, I am able to tell that he is pushing and get him to the potty in time.

I’ve been talking to him about the feeling of having to poop - if it feels a little funny in his tummy or butt or if he feels he needs to push - let’s go to the potty then. But I dont know how else to help him make it all click?

Has anyone else had to deal with this and how did you overcome it?
