I contacted a bunch of places, but the people working there pass down my call to someone to leave a voicemail. I feel like a lot of people working at these places take their job lightly, similar to treating the people living there.

I really want to give back to our fellow citizens who have done so much for us, hence I’d like to volunteer at retirement facilites, but I am unable to find them. I emailed a few retirement communities, but they never responded back.

So I go to college here, but since I am on a summer break, I was planning to volunteer at an old folks home/retirement home in Des Moines area. Anyone has any tips on how to get started and what I can expect?
