Avoid Bevy’s Tavern

I grabbed lunch with friends last weekend at Bevy’s Tavern and everything went fine, although my food could have been better. I checked out using the QR code and left, but a few days later I noticed the charge on my credit card was significantly higher than it should have been. I called so it could be fixed and was told a manager would get back to me and I’ve heard nothing. I started a chargeback, but just thought I would share my experience because letting your shitty staff get away with adding extra tips is gross.

Does anyone actually call it the "Casey's Center" now?

For context, I'm in my early twenties and I've ALWAYS remembered the place as the Wells Fargo Arena. Apparently at some point it was renamed the "Casey's Center"or "Casey's Arena"? When did this happen? Are we gonna keep calling it the Wells Fargo Arena like people still call it Twitter?

ISF T-Shirt Designer Winners are all AI Slop

Scrolling through Facebook and saw a post announcing the top 3 t-shirt design winners for this year’s Iowa State Fair.

Y’all, I am APPALLED that the top 3 were all AI generated designs. Apparently the Blue Ribbon Foundation has in their rules that they accept AI-generated submissions.

What a slap in the face to everyone that put in actual time and artistic talent into this contest.

I sent an email to the foundation letting them know my thoughts and I hope you decide to do the same. Also DO NOT BUY THESE SHIRTS AT THE IOWA STATE FAIR, as they will be selling them there.

Stop with the vandalism already, would ya?!

With even more strapped budgets of City of DSM and Polk Co presumably on the horizon... vandals stop with this shit. Seriously.

What event is going on downtown

I was walking my dog and noticed they are setting up tents and blocking off road near the downtown library. Does anyone know what event is going on? Thanks in advance

Celiac friendly restaurants

I have friends coming in from out of town next week and one has celiac and another had a less intense gluten allergy. I know bar Nico is great for gluten free! I was just wondering if anyone knew of other places that were similarly great or had separate fryers and prep spaces for things? The gal with a celiac is a teenager so super fancy food is not on our radar.
Thanks for any recommendations!!

Passing through on a road trip- what’s a good 20-30$ per meal restaurant?

Hi yall!

We are driving through Des Moines tonight and need recommendations.

I keep seeing fancy, $50 plates recommendations but that’s too much right now.

We could do Asian, American, Italian, but no Mexican or seafood

What’s a good pub, pasta, or tavern food?

Thanks!

Party bus bar route ideas around Des Moines?

My girlfriend is getting a party bus this summer for her birthday and we’re trying to plan a good route/bar lineup.

We want the bus itself to be part of the experience, so we’re looking for spots around the Des Moines metro that aren’t all super close together or insanely packed.

Looking for:
- Good bars for a larger group
- Enough driving time between stops to enjoy the bus
- A good mix of vibes/music/types of bars

Any suggestions are appreciated! We’ll call ahead anywhere we plan to stop to let them know we’re coming.

Thanks!

Community Bulletin Boards

I'm looking to put up some flyers for my business and am wondering where you all see bulletin boards. I'm thinking like coffee shops and the like.

Eating Disorder Support Groups

I’ve been in treatment for binging/bulimia the last few months. It’s going well but I need additional support and am looking for in-person groups that meet around the area. My provider has sent me some resources, but I don’t think they’re quite right for me.

I’ve researched my options and I’m only coming up with virtual sessions. I’m not someone that enjoys virtual or telehealth, and better make connections and understanding when I can see people face to face.

I have wonderful family and friends, but I’m not very open about my disorder with them. It brings me a lot of shame, which is why I want to meet with individuals who really understand what I’m going through.

So if anyone has any resources in the DSM area, please send them my way. I need and want the help!

Living deep downtown vs outskirts

I see a lot of posts about apartments and I actually made one the other day, so sorry for adding another. But I’m trying to decide between living deep downtown by my work vs staying a bit outside like Ingersoll Ave, Cityville area, Sherman Hill, or East Village.

I’m a recent grad and my job is downtown, so living right there would make me not have to commute. But I think the actual living environment outside downtown would be more comfortable.

Any insights are appreciated. Also, I’m curious what people who’ve lived in both situations ended up preferring.

Thanks to this subreddit I was able to get some tote bags before the branding changed

Basically you guys were talking about the upcoming change, and I (In Wisconsin) asked a family member in Iowa to grab me a few while they still could. They were able to pick up a couple, and I came and got them two weeks ago when I was visiting for non-Kum and Go related reasons. Thanks people of this subreddit for helping me know i needed to ask someone to do this
