Honeywell Home Smart Thermo Died

I have this unit in my hallway:

https://manuals.plus/honeywell-home/honeywell-home-rcht9610wfw2004-smart-thermostat-installation-guide

Today the screen turned off and I haven't been able to revive it. I've checked the breakers and they haven't been tripped. Took the unit off the wall and it doesn't look like there're any bad connections or corrosion. Ran through all the troubleshooting steps in the manual. Just seems to be broken.

This unit is only four years old. Weird that it died so soon. So questions:

* Anything else I should try to revive this unit that wouldn't be in the manual?

* Do I need this exact model? When I search for it specifically, I'm getting a mix of model numbers back. Are there a bunch of them that are compatible with the same wall mount/pins?

* If so, best place to order one?

* Any pitfalls I should be aware of putting a new one in?

Thanks!

"Picard needs so much therapy!" - a first time TNG viewer (UPDATE!)

I'm back and we've made it to season 6.

Last time I posted, my partner was wondering if Riker would get over being mad at Ensign Ro and sleep with her. We made it to Conundrum shortly after and as soon as Ro showed up in Riker's quarters, she cackled and said "I was right again! He really can't help himself, huh?"

Her latest bit of precognition came after watching The Inner Light. She was like "Picard needs so much therapy!" and then rattled off all the life-altering trauma he's faced. She then said "they can't do worse than this episode though, right?" Well today we're going to be watching both Chain of Command episodes and she's about to find out that there are four lights.

+++++++

Some other random notes from our watching experience: She asked me if I thought "Data can make it vibrate" during when he was dating that lady in In Theory. She's still mad at every Worf episode and has caught on that he's basically always wrong during bridge scenes. If Worf says to shoot something, it means they definitely shouldn't shoot it. And when they released Hugh and let him go back to the collective she was like "that's definitely going to come back to bite them later, huh?"

We also discussed this week, now that we're six seasons in, that there's a few episode shells that the writers go back to on a regular basis. For instance: Sir Patrick shows off what a good actor he is via trauma or moral monologue, Data learns an important lesson about being human, Riker/Troi fall in love with a guest star and that's bad news OR a guest star gets obsessed with Riker/Troi and that's bad news, Geordi has a very bad day, etc.

Anyways, more updates in the future if people are still having fun with this!

"How long before Riker stops hating Ensign Ro and starts lusting?" - A First Time TNG Viewer (UPDATE)

I'm back with another update on my partner's first time watch of TNG and her surprisingly prescient observations about the characters and plotlines. Last time we talked about Geordi's terrible love life, but we just watched Ensign Ro and this observation made me actually belly laugh knowing what was coming.

I told her that the Bajorans and their conflict with the Cardassians was important before we started the episode, so she was extra locked in. She predicted the evil admiral and asked why there were so many bad admirals in Star Fleet if the Enterprise crew are all so good. But more funny was her reaction to Riker seeming to really hate Ensign Ro.

"So she's hot, and he and Troi are clearly poly, so how long before he stops hating her and decides he wants to fuck her?"

I may have given this one away with my laugh, but I told her we will have to see how it plays out. Didn't help that this was immediately followed by Silicon Avatar where Riker starts the episode talking dirty with the woman building the colony. My partner was like "See? He's definitely gonna get around to Ro! Don't lie to me." 🤣

Other updates: The Klingon civil war did not improve her opinion of Worf. She kept yelling at the lady who fell in love with Data in "In Theory" that she was repeating her own mistakes. She thought Darmok was a fun premise but it was dumb the Tamarian captain got himself killed instead of like, sending over some cultural materials. But then she spilled her coffee this weekend and said "Shaka, when the walls fell" so I think this show is making a serious impact on her brain chemistry.

"It's gonna be so awkward if he ever meets the real Leah" - a first time TNG watcher (UPDATE!)

So in my previous post, I shared that my partner was watching TNG for the first time and made a comment about how Worf that you can find here. In the post, I added an aside that when we watched Geordi falling in love with Holo-Brahms, she also said something to the effect of: "it's going to be so awkward if he ever meets that lady for real and he finds out she's a real person and not the ChatGPT version."

I was asked for an update thread so here it is. We watched Galaxy's child the other night and she was utterly flabberghasted by the whole episode. She kept pointing out that Geordi was acting so creepy and unprofessional, yelled "red flag!" like five times, and said she was so disappointed that Geordi went from "unlucky in love" to actively crossing professional boundaries. And then when Geordi gave his whole "I'm guilty of trying to be your friend!" speech at the end she said "ick" and then screamed "Nooooo!" when Leah apologized to Geordi afterwards.

It was honestly really funny to watch her reactions, and a little uncomfy to confront just how far we've had to come in 35 years despite Trek feeling so progressive at the time. Similar to how we saw Buffy as progressive and feminist in the 90s, but then grew up, looked back, and saw all the problematic stuff about it in retrospect that makes sense when you find out how Whedon was revealed to behave behind the scenes.

Afterwards we had a really good chat about how Levar insisted when he came back for Picard that they didn't make Brahm's the mother of Geordi's kids, and how Leah was very autistic-woman coded and that gets left out of the discussions about this episode because people already had Data to pin autism comparisons onto in the show. These kinds of chats after a big episode always make the experience more fun than just watching the show together. This series (and this show specifically) really keeps on giving.

As an update on our viewing experience, she loved seeing Data's Day, The Wounded, and Devil's Due in a row. "Banger after banger" was how she described season four after those episodes. But we watched Night Terrors and Identity Crisis last night so she's a little less thrilled at the moment. Fortunately, The Drumhead is coming this weekend if we keep up the pace so she's in for a real treat. Her primary concerns right now are: When does Worf get to clear his father's name? When will Wesley come back for a visit? And does anyone ever fall in love with Data? So the next few weeks will be fun.

"I don't think Worf would make a good father" - a first time TNG watcher

After many years together, my partner finally agreed to watch TNG despite not being much of a scifi person. We just got to Reunion, and she was both very excited to see K'Ehleyr return and bummed she died, but really liked the episode overall.

We were just getting ready for bed and says "ya know, I don't think Worf would make a good father." And I just busted up laughing. I try really hard not to share spoilers, but sometimes give her background information about the actors, the writing, or the fandom. Without revealing any further plot points, I told her that Worf being a terrible father is a very popular joke among the fans and she was really pleased that her instincts were correct.

(Also funny: After Geordie "fell in love" with holo-Brahms she said: "it's going to be so awkward if he ever meets that lady for real and he finds out she's a real person and not the ChatGPT version." So that episode is going to be fun to watch too. 🤣)
