Has anyone spotted or heard sandhill cranes migrating south this season?

It's a highlight of Fall (the year!) for me to hear their rattling bugle as they catch the thermals over Boulder. I'm not sure how the drought might affect the timing this year. I usually hear a few flocks mid-October. If you happen to spot a group that are following the foothills north of town and can post a heads up, I would be thankful!

Props to your local community supported search and rescue groups

Just finished reading the harrowing article on Red Mountain Pass in the New Yorker magazine (Oct 5, 2026). I am a fan of Peter Hessler and am pleased to see he wrote about the area. Thanks to the individuals that carry this burden in all our Rocky Mountain rural communities. I hope the article is well received and helps draw more contributions nationally for the volunteer operations across the state.

Free art school supplies

Art Parts is a fantastic resource for all things creative in Boulder. I love shopping and donating unused craft/art supplies here. I want to share this email with those who may need some help buying all the art supplies for start of school. This business is such a treasure in our community. Not affiliated, just appreciative.

Text message error

I am trying to help my mother figure out why she's getting this error in the middle of her active text conversations. She only knows her provider is Red Pocket and that it's an older samsung a32. The phone has been reset multiple times and we replaced the samsung messaging app with Google's through the play store. The error message is infrequent, occurs as she's actively texting, and the recipient gets her texts. This started yesterday. Her connection mobile data/Wi-Fi are usually great here.

Is this a network issue or an older android issue? Or should she not worry about it?

Thanks

Wonderland Lake Park

Super scientific here. Just thought a comparison photo might be appreciated. Keep the moisture coming and the evacuation bags handy.
