I just picked up my first vintage lantern and it works well enough but I've got a couple questions. 1. When I light it it seems like it only lights properly when I put the flame under a particular mantle. Is this normal? 2. When it runs it seems to pulse a bit even after it has warmed up.

Any advice on how to get it running more consistently?
