Nervous to Quit, feels like betrayal
Hello all,
Don’t have anyone to talk to about this so coming to reddit for opinions.
I’ve been working at my company for over 6 years, and the last couple of years it has been going downhill. Regular layoffs in certain departments, customers regularly terminating contracts, slashing expenses and travel benefits, hotels went from 200$ Mariotts to 110$ max per night hotel, and a very top heavy organization.
I started a new position in a department about a year ago, and it was going great until they hired a new external VP that has completely derailed the progress my boss and coworkers were making, and turned it into “his way or the highway”. He even cursed me out in a meeting in front of the whole department because I questioned his decisions. Needless to say I’m unhappy and I can kind of see the writing on the wall, and rumor has it the company is trying to sell within the next few months anyway.
However, my immediate boss and coworkers are good people, and me leaving puts them in a bind and I feel guilty for leaving. Call it loyalty, but I know they’ll be upset with me leaving. I’ve had all my friends put in their notice as well from the other departments and the CEO sends them a nasty message sometimes about how we are “tarnishing our name by quitting”. I have a new job lined up that is a 30k raise, with a very healthy bonus and an insurance package that the company pays for all my family’s premiums.
Anyway, just looking for some outside advice comments to help ease this transition, or just to call me a wussy and do what I need to do for me and my family.
