bad sleep, maybe overreaching?

Hi! This year I barely ran at all until March. Since March, I started running 20–30 km per week, and for the past two weeks I’ve started a more intense program of 70–80 km per week with two speed sessions.

I’ve started having very poor sleep and I wake up after about 4 hours of restless sleep and can’t fall back asleep. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sleeping problems

Hi! I’m a 26-year-old male, and I’ve been working as a firefighter for the past 6 years. I currently do seven 24-hour shifts per month, and I also work 10–12 days a month as a courier. On top of that, I run 70–90 km per week and do 3 strength training sessions weekly.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been waking up every night around 4 AM feeling instantly alert and unable to fall back asleep. Sometimes I also feel intense heat and even sweating. Very rarely I manage to fall asleep again for a couple more hours, but before a firefighter shift I definitely can’t.

I’ve tried breathing techniques, going to another room to read, supplements, etc., but nothing seems to work.

What do you think I should do?
