Got laid off after 1 year as an EA.

Got laid off today. Apparently "restructuring" is the corporate word for "good luck."

So today I got the dreaded meeting.

Fifteen minutes on the calendar. HR joins. You already know how the story ends.

I was told the company is "restructuring" and my role was being eliminated. No warning. No performance issues. No conversations about concerns. Just a carefully rehearsed speech about how "this decision wasn't easy."

Funny how companies always say you're a valued member of the team right before they revoke your access.

The part that gets me isn't even losing the job. I understand businesses change.

It's the complete lack of notice.

One day you're planning next week's work. The next you're locked out of your accounts before you've even processed what happened.

I gave that job everything I had. Late nights, extra projects, solving problems that weren't even in my job description. Then it all ended with a corporate buzzword and a Zoom call.

Anyway... that's my little rant.

Tomorrow I'll update my résumé, start applying again, and move on because that's really the only option.

But if your company keeps telling you you're "family," remember that restructuring season comes for family too.
