The washing machine
My relative has dementia and its been hitting her pretty hard. The issue im facing right now is her obsession with the washing machine and putting one outfit to wash every single day. It gets annoying when you have to wash a load and she’s either putting her clothes in with yours or putting her stuff in the washer while i switch one load to the dryer and it gets frustrating (only because i try to get it done on my only off day).
Honestly sometimes it wouldn’t be an issue if it was only an hour but she sets the machine to the longest setting which is 3hrs to wash/ or she’ll take it out before its done and put it in the dryer but her clothes will be SOAKED so it takes hours to dry. Im worried its going to damage the machine as well.
Im not sure why she does this when she literally wears the same outfit almost every single day. Before she got dementia she hoarded a lot of clothes (and more) so id understand if shed switch it up a bit. But to wash everything she can find that’s not even dirty i get frustrated. She does shower at least once a day, but just wears the same outfit and will be very upset if you tell her to change her clothes or wear something different.
I completely understand that shes not in her right mind, so i dont give her a hard time about it. She also does this to other family members that wash their clothes. Sometimes she’ll take their clothes out the dryer and put it somewhere completely random so she can wash her clothes. I started hiding the detergent while i wash clothes but today she still put a load in before i could put the second load in. (She washed with no detergent) .I usually take my clothes out as soon as it starts playing the song at the end so its not like she has to wait long if im actually done washing.
I dont know how to get her to stop lol.
