It is mentioned that selection would be based on acceptance of candidates but I guess all candidates would select all projects they got for confirmation and second is after that it is solely based on our preferences given in initial form.

But I got no list about professor and institute names during project selection they how could we had decided our compatibility then I had selected projects only on basis of my interest and now I don't understand what is point of selecting students only on basis of their preferences ???

Then what was relevance of interview and merit ??
