First PC build - am I doing anything wrong here?
I’m building my first PC ever. I’m honestly pretty nervous about it, so I decided to make a Reddit post.😄
I’ve been spending the last few weeks reading forums, watching reviews, comparing parts… and I think I’ve finally put everything together. I’m actually kinda proud of it. But before I start buying everything, I’d really like to hear opinions from people who actually know what they’re doing.
I’ve picked everything except the GPU. I’m planning to try to find a good used RTX 4070 12GB at a reasonable price. If I can’t find anything decent, I’ll probably just go for a new RTX 5070 12GB.
Unfortunately, the whole build still ends up being pretty expensive😅, but I want something that will comfortably last me for the next few years.
Here’s what I’ve got so far:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 - ~$135/~€118
I feel like going for a 5600X or 5700X wouldn’t really give a big enough performance boost to justify the extra cost. Or am I wrong?
Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS - ~$119/~€104
RAM: Lexar Thor White DDR4 32GB (2x16) 3600MHz - ~$225/~€197
SSD: Crucial P310 1TB PCIe 4.0 - ~$159/~€138
Would it make sense to save some money here and go for a good PCIe 3.0 SSD instead?
PSU: FSP Hydro K Pro 750W ATX 3.0 - ~$70/~€61
(Got lucky to find a discounted unit (new, with warranty) because the packaging was opened.)
CPU Cooler: DeepCool AK400 - ~$33/~€29
Case: Montech Air 903 Base - ~$65/~€57
I’d really appreciate any feedback. If I made any mistakes or if there are better or cheaper alternatives for the same price, please let me know.
Also, I’d love to know if everything here works well together - compatibility, power delivery, thermals, airflow, or anything else I might have missed.
My main goal is a well-balanced, reliable build for gaming at 1440p on high/ultra settings.
I need this PC for work anyway, but if I’m spending this much, I also want it to handle gaming properly.
Thanks a lot to everyone who reads this and takes a few minutes to help a beginner❤️
P.S. I haven’t even started choosing a monitor yet…😅
