Finished Cabinet + Question
This is my first cabinet build. Overall, I’m happy with how it turned out and it’s going to be a huge upgrade from my previous storage system (which was a cheap ikea organizer and a reusable bag stuffed full of reusable bags).
I know it sounds very… beginner, but I’m thrilled that I was precise enough with the spacing to get the drawers and drawer slides to fit on the first try.
I know I can get edge banding for the sides of the plywood, but this is just going in a hallway closet, so I don’t care too much about the finishing touches. Also, the asymmetry between the two sides is for clearance with the closet doorframe.
My parents got me a circular saw, a jigsaw, and a multi-tool for Christmas. I ended up buying myself an orbital sander, a router, and a couple jigs to help with this project. I also have a secondhand miter saw that I haven’t gotten around to using. I’m planning a few other projects, so I figured the tools were worth the investment.
On the topic of tools, I have a question:
I used the Kreg rip cut jig. It worked pretty well, but I noticed on some of my cuts I would end up with a 1/16” difference between the start and end of the cut (the issue is towards the end of a cut when the jig is sliding past the end of the material). I also noticed that when using the jig, some of the cuts are not exactly perpendicular to the face of the wood.
Does anyone have any better suggestions? Would a portable table saw work well? Or would a track saw be easier? (I worry about maneuvering entire sheets of plywood with a table saw.) Is it possible to get good, clean cuts with the rip cut jig if I’m more careful?
