Nostalgia About Death Note Fanfics

Hello, I’m new to this community, but I’ve been a fan of Death Note for quite a few years now.
Back in 2019, when I first watched the anime, I became a little obsessed with it (to the point where I thought about it every single day). But honestly, that was fine — I was much younger at the time, so whenever I discovered something new, I would instantly hyperfocus on it lol.
Anyway, during that year I read a lot of Death Note fanfics of all kinds. My favorite ones were always the L × Misa stories. I used to search for them on sites like Spirit Fanfic, Wattpad, FanFiction.net, and AO3 (although I only discovered AO3 years later).
There was one specific L × Misa fanfic on Spirit that I absolutely loved. No exaggeration, I remember it being really long, and the writing and character development were amazing. I read it at least two or three times.
Out of all the sites I mentioned, that one had my favorite fanfic.
But in 2020, when I tried to find it again, it was gone. Apparently the author either archived or deleted it. I cried so much over it lol. Looking back at the situation now, I honestly find it kind of funny — I just wanted that fanfic back so badly hahaha.
As time passed, I eventually got over it. But recently I started wondering: why have so many Death Note fanfics disappeared over the years? Even stories written by amateur authors seem to vanish eventually.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
