asking about training collars!
hi everyone!
let me get right into it. I have a German shepherd who’s the most amazing and smart dog ever. I feed him well, I do play and training sessions throughout the day.
when I first got him, he was gift. my first ever german shepherd dog. so you can only imagine what we both went through. I think he’s helped me be open-minded though, as well as my parents. I’ll be honest, we all should’ve done our research before getting him.
But he’s one of the best dogs I’ve ever had so I’ve been trying to fulfill him as best as I can.
that being said, even with how long I’ve been training him, he still sometimes doesn’t listen.
I know a perfect recall won’t happen right away. But I’ve been teaching him for a long time and I fear it may be me.
he’s also a little scared of people and animals which we are also working on. I haven’t seen much improvement but I’m talking him to parks and letting him look at people/dogs from afar. I’m trying not to throw him straight into it.
also, last year he had a health scare. we drove him to the emergency vet and I don’t know if it was because he wasn’t feeling well or what, but he completely panicked which had never happened before. I think that experience definitely changed things which is why I’m trying to help with his anxiety.
so, my question is, do E Collars actually help? I don’t want to scare him or hurt him or traumatize him, i just want to know if e collars are successful in getting results that I want:
A good recall, less anxiety/more confidence, and more focus on me.
I know I should do my research and I will, but it’s honestly very annoying to see so many different things being said about e collars and prong collars.
I don’t love the idea of a prong collar, but then again, I don’t know how to use it correctly.
thank you for your reply, I appreciate it!
