Hi everyone, I’m looking for some honest advice, especially from tattoo artists or people with experience in blackout work.
I currently have a blackout section on my inner bicep and I’m planning to work over it (most likely a floral piece). My main idea was to go with white ink, but I’m also wondering about using color — especially red — for the flower.
I know that color over black doesn’t stay vibrant and tends to heal much darker (more like deep red/burgundy tones), so I’m not expecting anything bright or saturated. I’m more interested in understanding if it can still work in terms of readability and long-term result.
I’ve seen the work of Remy (Ephemeral Remy), who has experimented a lot with color over blackout on a large scale, but my case would be much smaller — just a section under the bicep, not a full sleeve or full body project.
My concern is whether using color (instead of white) would just turn into a dark, muddy shape over time, rather than a readable design.
Do you think color over blackout is viable for something like this?
Are there any good healed examples of red (or other colors) over blackout that actually hold up well?
Thanks a lot in advance
