Foam makes the scene

Foam project panels are the base of this scene as well as the raised portion. Insulating spray foam was used to make the boulders. The 5-inch-scale potter, rug seller and cheese seller are repainted. Tree and shrubs are from a hobby store. The background (from Italy) is printed on cardboard. Several years ago, there was a limited amount of available backgrounds. Today, you can find dozens of styles, printed on polyester panels in a variety of sizes.

Carols by Candlelight in Australia - fabulous Christmas

December is summer south of the equator. In cities across Australia, Carols by Candlelight is a wonderful tradition. There are performances by choirs, professional music groups, and soloists on stage in the evening, but the fantastic experience happens after dark. Candles are provided to the audience when they arrive. After dark, candles are lit, and a choir on the stage, leads the audience in singing. At "Carols in the Domain" (Sydney) I was singing carols with more than 30,000 people. It's an unforgettable experience.

Nativity figures need scenery

Hobby stores sell sets of figures for people to display on a shelf. They don't sell the buildings, landscape, and accessories needed for a nativity scene, but you can make the scene for your Christmas decor. I used foam to make the base and building. Instead of a star, I placed a gloriola over the scene.

Time to work on outdoor Christmas decor

This carol-singing couple needs children. I painted the couple on plywood that I had cut out. Now is a good time to work on a son and daughter to join in the singing. There are hundreds of polyester printed paintings available online that can be used for backgrounds or as a main decoration on the home; some religious and some with Santa or Christmas trees. They could be used as a decoration on porches, balcony railings and fences, or to cover a garage door.

Georgiana - She led the caravan of the kings

Just as there is a variety of depictions of the three kings, the same can be said of the many versions of Georgiana in various nativity scenes. A native of Georgia, in the Caucasus Mountains, legend says that she led the caravan of the kings as they followed the star. She is typically placed near the Holy Family (Mary, Joseph, and Jesus), but is distinct from the central biblical characters.

According to legends, Georgiana was part of the retinue of the kings. Some tales claim that she led them on their journey to meet with the Holy Family. Georgiana is a specialized figurine frequently found in detailed, traditional Italian nativity scenes. In some displays, she's wearing royal clothing while riding on a camel. In other displays, she's riding in an elaborate sedan chair, transported by two camels or a group of servants.

Foam project panels (Home Depot), foam sheets (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Dollar Tree) and cardboard can be used to make a scene for your 5-inch-scale nativity figures. I use texture spray paint for stone effect on foam. ---- When your hobby is building nativity scenes, you can have Christmas all year long.
