What’s going on with the sub?

I hope this doesn’t sound judgmental or insensitive because I promise that isn’t my intention. I’m a recovering addict. I was a full-blown heroin addict (over six years clean) who did whatever I could get my hands on during that period. I occasionally drink, though I‘m working on that because I don’t need to be doing that either & drank to the point of health issues. Long story short, when I first discovered this sub it was filled with drug addicts/alcoholics. Maybe the occasional gambling/porn addict, but primarily people who had really made a mess of their lives and suffered from the disease of addiction with physical dependencies. I’m seeing lots of strange posts that don’t fall into that category. (Hypothetical example: “I am addicted to smelling my armpits, staring at butts in public, I think I’m addicted to candy because I eat more than I should.” Either unhealthy habits or odd confessions.) Anyone else noticing the switch? Not trying to gatekeep what anyone posts but this place was a source of support for me when I was first getting clean, so I would love for other addicts to have that same experience.

Hi everyone! So as we all know, Ohio gets a bad rap. Lots of poverty, addiction, and overweight pasty white bodies that have become synonymous with OH jokes. Though as someone who is from a more “desirable” state, I love this state. First off, the state is geographically beautiful. There’s not a single mile without a tree/ greenery. Secondly, people are real AF, what you see is what you get. I spent the first 30 years of my life in CA. Lots of people who are beautiful on the outside, but just the outside. I’m tired of the state getting a bad rap because I would personally choose OH anyday over unaffordable housing & vanity. Sure wages (and politics) are lower here, but in comparison to the price of living, an Ohio resident has a better financial quality of life over more sought after locations. So yay Ohio! Guess this is a bit of an appreciation post. It’s a gorgeous state filled with genuine people.
