Five Reasons for Disclosures

A Broken Clock

Time has a way of exposing any mechanism, like the lost seconds on an heirloom wristwatch. This imperfection is what drives us to take it apart and understand how it works. It's an organic cause of disclosure: we're anomoly detection organisms.

Leaks Gone Wild

The motivations are all over the place. Some people have seen an orb up close and couldn't get their hands on it to see how it works. Others have secondhand exposure and think they need to understand the strangeness of the anomolies or the experiencers. And then there are the manipulators and larpers who use what they learn for fun or profit. This cause for disclosure is the easiest to understand: people want to share their perspectives.

Changing of The Guard

The elders are in their graves or taking their final laps. What we are now, is a new people trying to understand the legacy. Our fathers lied to us and we don't know if we want to follow in their footsteps. And some of us find ourselves in possession of plans, artifacts, and experiences that we don't fully understand or agree with. This cause of disclosure is controversial: some need to keep the rituals and others want it all laid bare.

The Greatest Version

By now you are wondering if this is written by a human or assisted in some way by AI. Before 2017, you may have been critical of a writers associations and want to know who they know. We all share that distrusting feeling as we try to sort fact from fiction and rarely set our eyes on the things we read about. This cause of disclosure might be the most fragile: history is being rewritten and we're in a rare moment of public comment.

Rise of OSINT

Open source intelligence has become more accessible recently. Legacy methods required real effort such as knocking on doors and writing letters. Now you can hide behind your screen and catch up on the latest discourse while eating lunch. But this also makes it easier for disinformation to be mixed in. This last reason for disclosure is classic craftwork: partial truths being released to reveal or distract from larger truths.

What original thoughts do you have on the cause(s) for disclosure?
