He didn’t get his third dinner tonight. I fear for my life.
Lack of empathy is alarming
Just wanted to share my story a little because maybe someone here had a similar experience and can relate. Sorry, this is a long post.
My mom’s one year death anniversary is coming up in a few days and that contributed to me waking up and not wanting to be involved in this “religion” anymore.
A few months after she died, I got a shepherding call. I let the brothers visit my apartment and they tried to “encourage” me. It wasn’t very encouraging or helpful at all.
They basically wanted me to do more since I was missing meetings from intense grief. They told me I can’t be at meetings just to “fill a seat,” and that I need to participate more. Also, they wanted to make my husband a ministerial servant when I needed his support the most.
My mom was never a witness so I felt like my grief was not validated and no one really cared. No one reached out to me, no phone calls, nothing. It was a very isolating experience. All they wanted was to “promote” my husband while I was going through the worst emotional pain of my life.
So I stop regularly attending meetings. I don’t respond when anyone from my congregation reaches out. The lack of understanding and empathy really made me begin to question this so-called “religion” and why even bother when they don’t care at all about me. They only care about my “spiritual performance” it’s so stupid.
So my husband continues to turn down the elders’ offers to make him a MS. I really don’t care what anyone thinks in that congregation because it’s obvious I’m the one keeping my husband from spiritually progressing when in reality he’s trying to support me through this terrible time. Again, the lack of empathy from these so-called “Christians” is really concerning, tbh. I just can’t be bothered with this nonsense anymore.
Losing my mom really opened my eyes to a lot of things, including the hypocrisy in this religion. So I’m keeping my distance for my mental health.
Thanks for reading.
