I’ll start this with my biggest hot take theory: I don’t think Ser Alliser was one of the men who stabbed Jon. Even though he does not like “Lord Snow”, Ser Alliser has proven time and again to follow the law of the Night’s Watch to the word. When Jon ordered Janos Slynt’s execution, Ser Alliser stood aside and let justice be served by order of his Lord Commander. Hell, he wasn’t the biggest fan of the Old Bear, but still followed his orders.

Following that, I believe that Jon’s resurrection will be one of ice and fire. By this, I mean Jon will be resurrected as an ice wight when the Others come (giving us an ice wight Jon POV for TWOW), and later be resurrected as a fire wight by Mel or another red priest around the beginning of ADOS. This’ll give Jon the blue eyes of an ice wight, and those features will merge with the red eyes and white hair of a fire wight. Blue and red eyes’ll make purple and he’ll have the white hair, making him appear Valyrian. Here’s where Ser Alliser comes in.

It might be directly to another character or as part of an internal monologue, but I believe Ser Alliser will confuse Jon for Rhaegar. Jon doesn’t have the distinctive Valyrian features of purple eyes and bright hair, but I believe he looks a lot like a dark-haired, dark-eyed Rhaegar. And when he’s brought back as a wight of ice and fire, many characters who knew Rhaegar will make the comment of Jon being “the ghost of the dragon” (see the pun I did there).

This, following Holland Reed’s claim of Jon’s parentage will serve as the physical proof of Jon’s true identity.

Where it goes from here? I have no idea. Maybe Jon’s appearance will allow Dany to trust him enough to bond with her last remaining “free” dragon in Rhaegal (fully believing Viserion gets hijacked) after Young Griff’s failed bond.

Side note: this also ties in to my “Benjen as the Champion of the Great Other” theory. Resurrected Jon will have to fight ice Benjen in the continued cycle of nephews fighting their uncles in the series. But this time, the nephew will win (like Cregan and Jaehaerys I)

Is it because of a supposed broken pact? Is it just migration? Is it malicious? Is it in response to the dying of magic? Is it in response to the weakness of the Night’s Watch and/or the Wall?

One of my favorites that I’ve heard recently is that the Others are mobilizing because weakness of both magic and their enemies’ descendants.
