Exterior hydrant screw snapped off, what do?

I have an exterior hydrant that was leaking water from behind the handle. Found a repair kit from a local big box store to replace all the rubber gaskets which I assumed failed. I sprayed the super rusted existing screw with WD40 to soften it up, but clearly wasn’t enough or was doomed from the start, and the screw head snapped clean off.

I grumble swore and went to get my screw extractor kit, and started drilling, but wasn’t sure if I would damage an internal portion of the hydrant if I went too deep.

Is there a better suggestion to get that little bastard out or is a screw extractor my only hope?
