How do you tell the difference between bad memory and dishonesty? I (30F) BF (31M)

I (30F) have been dating my boyfriend (31M) for 10 months, and I've noticed that when he tells stories or recalls memories, he sometimes changes details, exaggerates quotes (THIS ONE A LOT), or remembers things differently than they actually happened.

It's usually harmless stuff, but I have a pretty accurate memory (and I've been told that by a lot of people), so I notice it often, especially when I was there for the event he's talking about, or even when his version doesn't make any sense at all.

I can't tell if he's intentionally embellishing stories, if he genuinely remembers things that way, or if he just isn't very detail-oriented. When I correct him, he often insists he's right at first (which is frustrating), but eventually says he's not sure and yeah he might have mixed up the details.

The weird part is that these small things have started to make me question my trust in him, even though none of it is about anything serious.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is this just normal memory differences, or would it bother you too?

P.S: One extra question, he has a history of cannabis use and he's kinda back on it again. (Not too crazy, but like he's vaping most days). Do you think this can be a bit related to that? I know one of the main side effects of cannabis is short-memory issues.
