Watching it. Almost to the end Im convinced im going to love the end since so many people seem not to? I have ingested ZERO spoilers incredibly so I went in absolutely clueless. I’ll check back.
I’ve looked but haven’t seen it here at least…but I don’t see Walter as the auto-monster so many “analysis” do. Anyone that thinks this movie can be boiled down that simply is out of their depth. The worst thing he did was follow directions, mechanically. She was hurt not because it was against her will but because she was unable to impose her will onto him enough to get him to buy into (enjoy) her fantasy. I also don’t see her as a villian. Sort of the point, no? They are both each victim/perpetrator (also wildly over simplified terms here, but they get the job done). The most stunning part of this movie is how it never, not once, gives a why. We are programmed to expect an answer, and we are hardly even given a clue. Sure, over bearing mom, “mad” dad, but those are rather common experiences. Erika is uncommon, and not because she has “deviant” desires. She is a locked vault. And she never waivers. And we never get an answer to “why.”
