Looking for: If You Ever Believe Me. Free link pleaseee

I fell in love with the man who raised me. We weren’t related by blood. But he still pushed me away. Picked a husband for me himself. Said it was for my own good. After the wedding, my husband showed his true face. He beat me until I couldn’t stand.

The night I was dying, I finally called him. Begged him to save my daughter. Please, I’m dying. There was a pause. Then he said, Emily, you’ve been dying for five years. Are you still not done acting?

I found a webnovel that hits EVERY dopamine receptor and I need to talk about it

Okay so I need to share this because I've been binge-reading for 3 days straight and my sleep schedule is completely fucked. The setup: MC is Shadow—the world's #1 assassin who gets betrayed by the organization that literally created her. She blows up their entire island facility (with herself on it) and wakes up in the body of Jade Morgan, a bullied, overweight high school girl in bumfuck nowhere, USA. What sold me:

  • She keeps ALL her skills. We're talking combat, hacking, multiple languages, social engineering, financial manipulation. But she's trapped in a body that can't even run a mile without dying
  • The family dynamics are MESSY. Deadbeat dad, cruel mom and sister, but this one disabled little brother who actually gives a shit about her. She goes from "I don't do attachments" to buying him $2k laptops and learning medical procedures to fix his leg. The found family hits different
  • She builds wealth from literally $3 in bus fare to racing supercars and eating Michelin dinners within like... a month? The grind is insane
  • There's this running gag where she keeps accidentally revealing she's way too competent for a "normal teen" and has to play it off. Teacher accuses her of cheating on a calc test because she finished in 25 minutes with a perfect score. She hires a lawyer with mob connections to handle the academic hearing. The lawyer is confused why a high schooler has his number The tension: She's building this whole new life but her past keeps catching up. Old mercenary contacts recognize her fighting style. The hacker community thinks she's the legendary "X" who disappeared. Meanwhile she's just trying to get her brother into Princeton and maybe blow up the organization that killed her (again) if she has time The slow burn: There's this billionaire (Ethan) who's clearly figured out she's not what she seems. They're doing this dance where he's testing her, she's testing him back, both pretending they don't know the other is playing 4D chess. Very "two monsters recognize each other" energy. Very "he could be my enemy or my equal and neither of us knows which yet" I can't explain why watching someone use assassination skills to handle high school drama is so satisfying but it IS. The author actually understands fight choreography too? Like there's weight and physics to it, not just anime logic where she punches someone and they fly 20 feet Anyway I'm obsessed and need people to scream with about this.

Got a bunch of people asking for the title — answering here for everyone. It's called [Badass in Disguise!]
