May Pop Kitchen will be at Fat Cat tomorrow night

One of my close friends will be selling her snacks at Fat Cat tomorrow night for some art market thing. I think she’s a really good human but bias aside, her food is wildly good. She was destined to be a badass caterer. She doesn’t know I’m posting this. I don’t think she is on Reddit. I’m hesitant sharing her info because I’m scared she will sell out of her Furikake Snack Mix before I have a chance to get there. It’s like a Japanese Chex mix and her version has me in a chokehold. She is also making KimCheese stuffed pretzels and two types of cookies. (She’s famous for her cookies)

I really appreciate the insight and kindness I’ve gotten on this subreddit and wanted to let you know that the best snacks in Mississippi are going to be for sale tomorrow night as a thank you. She’s KayPop Kitchen. Tell her a very un little birdie told you. But save me some snack mix.

Really fun day of zero waste sewing. Thrift and flip day camp for grown ups. August 22nd

I wanted to share this with y’all since I first ask you wonderful humans if I should take the leap and plan a sewing day retreat. Thanks for pushing me back into the world after spending the last three years almost dying. You people rock, nit matter what those folks in Petal say. 🤪

PS: If you are a handmade maker or artist and are interested in a curated pop up market on the afternoon and evening of August 22nd, send me a message. Vendor fees will be just $20. The market will be open to the public at 4 with a sneak peek early shopping experience offered to ticketed guests attending the event.

Any creator using generative ai for any reason (including social media marketing) will be automatically eliminated from consideration for this market.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a Sew Much Fun event!! Dust off those machines, go a little wild at your favorite thrift shop, and click that code because it’s that magical time again!

Think theatre camp, but with sewing, yummy food and less drama. Some local artists will be selling their wares in the afternoon. This year we even have the Pine Belt’s very own book mobile! It’s just like middle school, but with grown up spending money! I hope they have stickers!!!

Join your friends and spend the day crafting, snacking and shopping! I can’t wait to see you there!

Nighttime art market this Friday in Downtown. Walking distance from Fat Cat, The Porter

TLDR: Parks and Recreation are hosting a nighttime art market this Friday from 5-10pm at the RJS Community Arts Center. (825 North Main St, Hattiesburg) Shop and eat with us, then go have more fun downtown.

Mostly indoor and air conditioned Art Market this Friday from 5-10pm at the RJS Community Arts Center! Come say hi to me and There will be a few artists outside but the majority will be indoors. There will be glass art, textile art, pottery, crochet, quilting, stickers, cakes, stoneware, jewelry. There’s one really cool woman who does on the spot portraits of you, your bff, your pet, you name it. I have the best watercolor of my elderly obese chonk of a terrier on my wall thanks to her. The food is going to be amazing as MayPop will be serving up Jambalaya .. with probably a vegan option and dessert- all at a super reasonable price. I had her Jambalaya once and still think about it.

When you’r done eating dinner made by the best cook in Mississippi and have supported local artists by buying their makes, you can stroll on over to one of our downtown bars to finish off a wonderful evening.

Anyway, I hope you come check out your local makers. Buy something sewn from me and tell me I’m pretty.

Local sewing classes.. another question for you awesome beasts!

I have enjoyed getting back into teaching sewing so much and this subreddit is partially responsible for my success. (Thank you!!) I wanted to offer a special for July, but wanted your opinions first.

So many people I speak with that have sewing machines simply do not know much about using them well. I was thinking of running a “Getting to know your machine” lesson. $20 for a solo student and $15 per person for 2- 4 people. Afternoons and Evenings appointments. Do y’all think that would be cool? Or should I offer something more fun, like a little project to make for the same pricing?

I wanted to do something a little different this month to introduce my classes to more people before I start offering a large monthly day retreat type class. (Quilt jackets, leggings, custom underwear, Clothing, cosplay, drag etc.)

I know it’s Reddit, please be kind. I’m sleep deprived.

Fun community class for quilters new and experienced

This month we will meet on the 4th Sunday instead of the 3rd because of Father’s Day. I know of two redditors who are part of the fun. If any of you want to join us, we have seasoned quilters and brand new sewists. We all have fun, laugh a little and leave with a quilt block that we will eventually make into a quilt. I’m biased, but I really dig the folks I’m teaching.

I’m embarrassingly excited to report that I found a small space to rent for sewing classes and have the option to host large group classes as well!

Starting in May, I will be here for your sewing lesson needs. If you have always wanted to learn how to sew but never had the chance, I’m your girl. If you know the basics but want to improve your sewing skills, pick me! pick me! If you are a decent sewist and want to stretch yourself and learn new techniques like quilting, bag making, making your own wardrobe, adaptive clothing, or upcycling, you know you want to call me. Want to be able to say “Thanks! I made it!” We can make that happen!

I’ve called every sewing teacher I know (and several I don’t) to ensure that my rates are reasonable because I believe that learning should be accessible for everyone.

I’m offering classes that can range from one on one, just you and me and our lesson OR for you and up to three friends. Classes start at $25 an hour per person and run 1-2 hours depending on your project and learning pace. I have loaner machines for folks who don’t have sewing machines just yet. And I offer various discounts.

Some of my favorite classes to teach:

• gift making • basic stretch leggings • quilting • zipper pouches • sewing hacks for off the rack clothing • upcycled chic • gender affirming garments • bag making • quilt as you go • quilted jackets • tech gifts • jelly roll races • adaptive clothing options • wallets • book covers • stretch fabric - no more fear of stretch • lingerie • baby clothes • Weddings • Subversive stitches

What would you like to learn in the world of sewing?

I don’t know the ins and outs about self promotion on Reddit so I guess if you want more information just let me know and I’ll send it to you?
